經真世覺君帝聖關 Sacred Saint Guan's Perfect Text on Enlightenment ![]() (Part I) The Sacred Deity said                   曰君帝             "People living in this world (should)           世在生人                       honor loyalty to the ruler,         孝忠盡貴     perform one's filial duty and have integrity in such matters.     事等義節                                                 On humanity, not being able to look people straight in the eye,     愧無道人於方                                                 sowing discord in one's scope of operation and not being loyal to the rule(r),     間之地天於立可                                                       failing to perform one's filial duty and lacking integrity in such matters;     事等義節孝忠盡不若                                                       although one is here in this world,             世在雖身                       one's conscious is already dead.           死已欺其                       This is called dragging out an ignoble existence.           生偷謂是                                                         In this mortal world, the conscience is the spirit           神卽心人凡                                               and the spirit is the conscience.           心卽神                            If the heart is clear,                 心愧無         then the spirit is clear.           神愧無         If one disregards the dictates of one's own conscience,     心欺是若                                                                 In that case, one is cheating one's own spirit.     神欺是便                                           Therefore the ancient ones of noble character and virtue follow the 3 Reverences and the 4 Knowledges     知四畏三子君故                                                                                                           and exersize caution.         獨其慎以     Don't say one can in a dark obscure place or room.     欺可室謂勿                                             The roof may still leak in some clear conscience.     愧可漏屋                                               One moment moving, the next still.     靜一動一                  The gods (will) examine and study (one),     察鑑明神                               and one will be under the glare,     手十目十                                              naturally.     至必所理   The judgment will be clear and evident,     昭昭應報況                 without the slightest deviation.     髮毫爽不      Lewdness is the head of all sins.      首惡萬為淫 Filial piety is the source of hundreds of good behavior patterns.     原行百為孝                                                                     However, there is still an opposing principle.     但有逆理                                                  In a heart that is abashed,     者愧有心於 don't say 'If it's advantageous, (then) do it     之行而利有謂勿   (This is) the mortal world's rationalization.     理合有凡                             In a heart with a clear conscience         者愧無心於 don't say 'If it's not advantageous, (then) don't do it.     行不而利無謂勿                                       If one fails my teachings,     教吾負若                   please try my sword.       刀吾試請   Respect heaven and earth,       地天敬     perform rites for the gods       明神禮                 and one's ancestors.     先祖奉         Be filial to one's parents       親雙孝 and loyal to the king('s law).       法王守 Value the principles of your teachers     尊師重                          and love your brother(s)       弟右愛                       Trust your friends     友朋信 Be on friendly terms with a clan     族宗睦     and with persons from the same rural neighborhood.     鄰鄉和                                                               A nice husband and wife     婦夫別 teach their children and grandchildren.     孫子教                       {Then the deity began to speak in stanzas} ![]() (Part II - What One Should Do) And when the time is right     便方行時                 Expand and amass one's unpublished good deeds     功陰積廣                                                           Relieve the distressed and the needy     急濟難救                                   Relieve the orphaned and commiserate the poor     憐貧孤恤                                                         Rebuild the temples     宇廟修創     Print Classic Texts (or Sutras)     文經造印                       Apply medicine and bestow tea     茶施藥捨                         Stop killing and instead, buy fish, birds and animals and set them free     生放殺戒                                                                                               Build bridges and repair the roads     路修橋造                             Support the hardship of the widower and the widow   困拔寡矜                                                           Consider grain and millet of value and refrain from leading an excessively comfortable life   福惜粟重                                                                                                                                 Mediate disputes     紛解難排 Donate one's property and assist others in achieving their objectives     美成資捐                                                                                         Train and teach people     人教訓垂             Analyze revenge     釋解仇冤 Be fair (regarding weight and volume)     平公秤斗                                   Close to one's virtue     德有近親   Far from one's enemies     人凶避遠         Cover up another's bad deeds and praise his virtue(s)     善揚惡隱                                                               Use things and save the masses     民救物利                       Set one's mind toward the Tao     道向心回                     Correct one's errors and make a fresh start     新自過改                                           Have one's bosom filled with benevolence     慈仁腔滿                                         Evil thoughts not in existence     存不念惡                           All things good     事善切一 Confident in performing rituals as instructed     行奉心信                                               Although people may not see it     見不雖人                     The gods already heard it earlier     聞早已神                       Increasing blessings and longevity     壽增福加                           More children and grandchildren     孫益子添                         Dissolving disasters and exterminating sickness     滅病消災                                                   Misfortune will not aggress     侵不患禍             People and things wholly at peace     寧咸物人                       The lucky star will shine on you     臨照星吉                   ![]() (Part III - What One Should Not Do) If there is evilness in one's heart     心惡存若                   Not doing good deeds     事善行不   Being lewd with (others') wives and daughters     女妻人淫                                                 Breaking up marriages     姻婚人破        Being evil (while acting like one) with honor and integrity     節名人壞                                                                         Envious of others' capabilities     能技人妒                         And the resourceful man's property     謀人財產                                     Instigating arguments     訟爭人唆               Benefiting oneself at the expense of others     己利人損                                                     Living too high on the hog     身潤家肥                        Hating heaven and angry at the earth     地恕天恨                                           Cursing the rain and scolding the wind     地呵雨罵                                             Slandering the Sacred Ones and ruining the worthy     賢毀聖謗                                                                   Destroying statues and imposing on the Gods     神欺像滅                                                         Slaughtering cows and dogs     犬牛殺宰                         Dirtying and submerging written papers     紙字溺穢                                               Abusing ones position and influences     善欺勢恃                                           Depending on the rich, oppressing the impoverished     貧壓富倚                                                                       Abandoning kindred     肉骨人離             Raping brethren     弟兄人間     Disbelieving the real Tao     道正信不                     Being an evil lewd thief     淫邪盜奸                   Esteeming wasteful extravagance     詐奢尚好                                     Slighting the diligent and thrifty     儉勤重不                                   Disregarding the five major grains     轂五棄輕                                       Ever so gracefully not reciprocating     恩有報不                                         Unconscionable and self deceiving     己昧心瞞                                       Tampering with volumes and weights (for one's own illegitimate profit)     秤小斗大                                                                                                         Establishing perverse religious sects     教邪立假                                         Enticing fools     人愚誘引 Contradicting ascension     天升說詭                   Hoarding materialistic items and being lewd     淫行物斂                                                       Clearly very mean and secretly cheating     騙暗瞞明                                               Double talk and crooked speech     語曲言橫                                 Cursing and swearing in the day     詛咒日白                                 Stabbing people in the back     害謀地背                         Negating the existence of heavenly principles     理天存不                                                         Not getting along with people     心人順不                             Not believing in cause and effect     應報信不                                   Leading people to wickedness     惡作人引                               Not cultivating goodness     善片修不                     Committing all evils     事惡諸行             Raising lawsuits and disputes     舌口詞官                             Being bandits and robbers     賊盜火水                       Evil poison, extreme misery and pestilent epidemic plagues     疫瘟毒惡                                                                                   Doltishly defeating wriggling life     蠢產敗生                                   Killing people and ruining families     家亡身殺                                       The male stealing, the female being loose     淫女盜男                                                   With sooner retribution on the self     身在報近                                       And later retribution on the children and grandchildren     孫子報遠                                                                            
(Part IV - Conclusion) The gods will examine and study     察鑒明神 With no confusion     紊不髮毫 The two ways: Good and evil     途兩惡善 Misfortune and blessings to be divided     分攸福禍                       Good doers to be blessed     報福善行 Evil doers, misfortune will descend     臨禍惡作                   \     Me giving this speech     語斯作經 Is the wish of all the faithful in performing rituals as instructed     行奉人願                                                                               Although this speech is fundamental     近淺雖言                                 It will greatly augment one's mind and body     心身益大                                                   Make fun of it (?)     言經侮戲     Separation: decapitation style     形分首斬                             If one can uphold recitation (of this text)     誦持能有                                                 Dissolve evilness and gather felicity     慶聚凶消                                         Request a boy, get a boy     子得子求                     Request longevity, get longevity     壽得壽求                                   Riches, honor and an official rank     名功貴富                                       All can be achieved     成有能皆           For all prayers     祈所有凡   Will achieve what one wishes     獲而意如                             Myriads of misfortune melt like snow     消雪禍萬                                             A thousand auspicious clouds converge     集雲祥千                                               All with blessings     福此如諸       Spiritual excellence may be achieved     致可善惟                                           I am selfless and unselfish     私無本經                         To spiritually aid the good people     人善佑惟                                     So that the good people will perform rituals as instructed     行奉善眾                                                                                 Don't neglect this will."。 志厥怠毋                     (fin) \
