People outside of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South East Asia, in general, have absolutely no idea what is entailed in 道教神功 religious Taoism. That's because their only knowledge of Taoism comes from famous philosophical texts, such as 老子道德經 Lao Tzu's Tao De Jing. We've all heard the expression 'ancient Chinese secret'. The secrets of spiritual power are the most well kept secrets of them all, and there's a good reason for it too. Specifically, there is a chain of responsibility that goes along with the transmission of Supernatural Power. This means that if a devotee decides to abuse her powers, not only will there be severe ramifications for the devotee, but for the Master as well. Therefore supernatural power has only been taught to a very select group of people. The Mao Shan sect, which was founded in 326 A.D., was only taught to 客家人 Haakga (Kejia) people or their descendants (Haakga are a very small Chinese ethnic minority). So since other Chinese are not allowed to study these arts, what chance would a non-Chinese have? Only several generations ago were other ethnic Chinese allowed to learn these arts. The 六壬法門 Loek Yum sect, which was founded in 638 A.D., was initially taught as a sect which was for (and by) the people (and refugees). Of course, and at that time (and almost to this day), nearly half the world spoke Chinese (certainly not Mandarin, but one of the thousands of dialects of spoken Chinese). 神州話。
