SIFU JAI
(A.K.A. Hung Gong-keung)
濟施符
(又稱洪江強)
Officially Sanctioned Founder of USA Hung Fut Pai
美國創辦人
Sifu Jai was born on the lower East side of Manhattan in the early sixties
(before the current state of gentrification). The neighborhood was quite rough back then and some
form of protection was necessary. Young master Jai was fortunate enough to
come across a flyer in Chinatown which advertised Hung Fut Kung-fu as taught by Master
Yeung Kai. Sifu Jai became his student as soon as possible.
Once in the school he made quick progress,
partially due to lots of street fighting (losing) experience and also due to natural talent.
After several years he eventually became Yeung Kai's top inside student.
Because of his skills and respect he finally graduated and became a master in
1980 and opened up his own school in 1985.
He taught there until 2002 when the
City of New York imposed urban renewal on the building and had it demolished.
In 1995 without any introductions Sifu Jai traveled to Hong Kong in search the
“Grandmasters” of Hung Fut (the term Grandmasters is used loosely here because as
you should know by reading the
Hung Fut History
that “Grandmasters”, as it were, have been abolished and replaced by a more democratic form of order).
He had three addresses of two great grandmasters and one grandmaster.
But as it turned out, the two great grandmasters had already passed on and the one remaining
grandmaster had
moved with no forwarding address. Now with no hope of finding any of them,
he wandered around Hong Kong, aimlessly.
At one point he was riding on the top of a double-decker bus in Kowloon,
watching the thousands of vertical billboards pass by.
When all of a sudden he saw a sign that read
洪錦培跌打醫舘
”Hung Kam Pui’s Dit-da Clinic”.
It said nothing of Hung Fut, but he recognized the name of the Grand Master.
So he got off the bus and went directly to the school.
After Chief Supervisor Hung Gam Pui asked Sifu Jai to show him all of the
Gungf-fu that Master Yeung Kai had showed him, he was positively impressed.
But Hung Gum Pui noticed that he was lacking the pole technique,
so he taught him the "Little Lefty Crazy Devil Staff" right off.
During that time Sifu Jai
often worked out with
王子 The Prince
Afterwards, Hung Gum Pui taught him the "qualifying Masters"
form known as
洪拳佛掌
Hung's Fist - Buddha Palm. The following year, Sifu Jai brought
Phil Auffrey
and several of his students to meet the Chief Supervisor.
All students from America that have met the Chief Supervisor is because
Sifu Jai had the grace to open the door and invite them over. Otherwise
he could never be found. Back then there was no website or anything else,
especially in English. People who live in Hong Kong could aleays find him, no problem.
But not an outsider.
So how is it that if
楊啟
Yeung Kai and
閻泰Tai Yim
taught Hung Fut in America years before
Sifu Jai did,

but Sifu Jai is known as the USA Founder of Hung Fut Gung-fu?

Simply because they were both renegade Masters who came out and taught without
being sanctioned
by the
香港洪佛國術總會
Hong Kong Hung Fut Kung Fu Association.
In other words, Sifu Jai is
the first Master to teach Hung Fut Gung-fu in the
USA as sanctioned
by the Hong Kong Hung Fut Kung Fu Association
香港洪佛國術總會.
